Classification Toscana IGT Vintage 2022 Climate The 2022 vintage was characterized by a rainy winter that provided the vineyards with excellent water reserves. Budbreak occurred towards the end of March, slightly later than in 2021. The second half of April was characterized by generally low temperatures that slowed the vine's vegetative development and subsequent flowering—which took place in mid-May—resulting in a delay of about 10 days compared to the previous year. Late spring and summer were marked by generally hot, dry weather, allowing the vines to make up for some of the initial delay and kickstart the ripening process effectively. Excellent day-night temperature fluctuations from mid- August through harvest fostered the development of aromatic qualities and yielded ripe, healthy, balanced grapes. As in 2021, the harvest began in the second week of September with Merlot, continued with Syrah and Petit Verdot, and concluded with Sangiovese and Cabernet by mid-October. www.antinori.it Vinification The harvested grapes were destemmed and gently crushed, then transferred to temperature-controlled tanks. Alcoholic fermentation was completed in 5–7 days. Controlled fermentation temperatures did not exceed 28°C for the Cabernet, Sangiovese, and Petit Verdot grapes, thereby favoring the extraction of color and soft tannins, while temperatures for Syrah and Merlot never exceeded 25°C in order to preserve their aromatic characteristics. Maceration lasted for 8 to 12 days. Following malolactic fermentation—which took place in October and November for all varieties—the wine was transferred to French and Hungarian oak barriques to begin its maturation period. Villa Antinori bottling began in August 2024. Historical Background Villa Antinori was first produced in 1928 by Marchese Niccolò Antinori—father of Piero Antinori—as the signature wine of the Antinori estate, capable, perhaps like no other, of representing the family's history, identity, and continuity. “It is called Villa Antinori. A red wine of Tuscan blood [...] made from grapes grown, ripened, and harvested in our vineyards on our Tuscan estates, then vinified and aged at Casa Antinori.” – Piero Antinori Tasting Notes Villa Antinori 2022 presents a ruby ??red color. The nose is intense and intriguing, characterized by fruity notes of black cherry and plum jam combined with hints of boxwood, tobacco, and vanilla. On the palate, it is enveloping, with soft, velvety tannins supported by excellent freshness and savoriness.
